Maybe i should get back to it. Last semester with my 3rd graders was amazing. Unfortunately I do not have a class to observe this semester :( However I am still taking courses related to my major and I so still plan on sharing what i learn with you all. Thanks for tuning in.

We’ll talk soon,

In my whole journey, which is coming to an end every soon, I’ve learned a lot and I’ve also heard a lot.The place where you here all the things that you’ll never learn in any college course has to definitely be the teacher’s break room.

The break room is the one place where all the teachers can let loose in the middle of their very hectic days.

Teachers talk about the students and their behavior, one kid threw a clip board at his teacher.

They talk about all the newest news in the teaching world, like standards that need to be met, and unfair test that students are constantly forced to take. They also talk about the lack of support teachers get from the parents and guardians.

The list i endless…

If you want to know all the tricks to being a teacher, you should definitely sit in the Teacher’s Break Room for a week or two! :)

Just Something I Was Sent & Wanted To Share

A philosophy professor stood before his class, when class began he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks.

He asked the students if the jar was full. They all agrees that it was.

He then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly, and the pebbles, of course, fell into the spaces between the rocks.

He then asked the students AGAIN if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course the sand filed up everything else.

With a unanimous YES the students agreed the jar was full this time.

The professor then says “This jar represents you life. The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health, and children -the things that, if only they remain, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things - your house, job, and car. The sand is everything else.”

If you put the sand first, there is no room for the other pebbles and rocks. The same goes for your life. Take care of the rocks first, the things that really matter, and the rest is just sand

First Lesson Jitters

A part of my final grade in my college course is going to come from teaching a lesson,on my own, to my third grade class. I know that the kids are only third graders but I am starting to get extremely nervous. I am so freaked out about having to do this on my own. My mentor and the teacher I’m shadowing will both be in the class, but they can’t help me deliver my lesson, only provide feedback afterwards. So much can go wrong its terrifying. I mean what if

my lesson is completely boring

none of the students listen to me

the lesson is too easy or too hard

I teach something totally wrong

not one of the students leave the classroom learning something from me

My professor says all of these worries are normal, even for experienced teachers have but my anxiety is going to kill me! If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I am open to all advice, criticism, or anything that will help me be the best teacher i can be. :)

Tumblr World

Hey Y’all !!

I know it’s been a few days since I’ve posted anything, but I’ll get back to it very soon! My students are testing this week so I wont get to spend as much times as I’d like in the class room. So if not later this week, I’ll definitely be back to posting good stuff next week :)

election:

TUMBLR TUESDAY: REGISTER TO VOTE EDITION
**ITS NOT...

election:

TUMBLR <strike>TUESDAY</strike>: REGISTER TO VOTE EDITION

**ITS NOT TUESDAY BUT REGISTER TO VOTE**

Does it feel like election day is still ages away? It’s not; in fact, early voting began for half of the country this week. And for half of the country, if you’re not yet registered in just two weeks, you’ll lose the chance to vote entirely. That’s what happened to 6 million Americans in 2008; this year, we’re participating in National Voter Registration Day to help make sure you’re not left out.

If you’re in the US, you should see the button above on your Dashboard; click it to register through our friends at Our Time.

No matter how you feel about politics, remember that your vote has the power to make a difference for at least one critical candidate or ballot measure on your ticket. If you don’t participate in the voting booth, you allow others to make important decisions for you.

Need some inspiration? Check out this gorgeous GIF campaign from MTV’s Power of 12, a new video from the cast of Workaholics, and a gallery of voting-inclined celebs at HyperVocal.

For more info, follow National Voter Registration Day on Tumblr, or track the tag #925NVRD. You can register in person at an NVRD meetup happening near you, or phone in any questions to the Election Protection Hotline at 1-866-OUR-VOTE.

No, it wasn’t a service dog. And no, parents aren’t allowed in for breakfast in the morning (but they come anyway, and there’s nothing I can do about it)

But seriously- no you cannot bring a dog into the cafeteria! It was very small- brand new puppy, probably two weeks old- and she had it zipped…

Since I’m new to Tumblr I’m not sure if my post will show as a new post when I edit andadd to it. If it doesn’t show as a new post, then I’ll re-post once my list has grown, and I’ve gained more followers. :)

the word STUPID — its an ugly word, children shouldn’t say it & teachers shouldn’t either.

the use of sarcasm — <strike>example</strike> — a student in my 3rd grade class had a lot of questions today. Some great, and some not so great. The the teacher that I “shadow” says to the student “well is there anything else you don’t know” uhh well DUH he’s in THIRD GRADE.

complaining about how under paid you are as a teacher, or how broke the school is — young kids wouldn’t know the difference in their education if they had the newest textbooks, or no textbooks at all. As long as class is interesting, and the teachers does their very best students will gain all that they need to.

THERE WILL BE MORE TO COME ……

If anyone has more to add feel free to comment or send them to my ask/advice box :)

What's with the Lunch Ladies?

I’m not sure if i can say this or not but …. why are the lunch ladies ALWAYS <strike>hags</strike> ehh i mean meanies. In elementary school lunch is awesome you can finally sit with who ever you want, you get to socialize, and eat. Those three things besides playing outside are the highlights of a young kids day! Then they walk into the cafeteria and the evil looking ladies rain on their parade. The lunch ladies NEVER smile, and in my opinion are always ugly. HAHA. I sat the the lunch table with my students today and I was afraid to even breath to loud, and I’m an adult. So can someone please tell me WHATS WITH THE LUNCH LADIES ?!?

Support Chicago Teachers

Support Chicago Teachers :
just an article about the strike in Chicago

Tomorrow will be my 3rd day as a lab student. I am not exactly sure what it means to be a lab student but I will tell you what my days have entailed so far:helping individuals with their daily assignments, collecting papers, handing back graded work, and reinforcing classroom rules.Like I said before, I’m not sure what it means to be a lab student, but the feeling I get when my students faces light up because I’ve entered the classroom is one I can get used to. :)

Lifeguards come in many guises, and it’s only now that I realize that most of mine were teachers -Laura Sofen

Lifeguards come in many guises, and it’s only now that I realize that most of mine were teachers -Laura Sofen:
Just a blog that i found interesting :)

My Class

My class is a 3rd grade magnet class of twenty students.

18 African American

1 Asian

1 Hispanic

They are all so different in many ways. There’s a set of twins. Some who have brothers and/or sisters, and some who have no siblings. Some who come from broken homes, some who don’t. Some who love to read and some who would rather do math, or science. Some who are very loud and out spoken, and some who come to school to learn not to be heard. Some of them like to dance, others like sing. Some play football others like to wrestle. There is one thing that they all have in common….

All come from an impoverished neighborhood where they are expected to fail, but they all are extremely intelligent, and just need a little extra push of encouragement.

I gave my 6th graders an exit ticket to complete on Monday at the end of class. One question asked students to say what they liked about the class (don’t worry, another question asked what they’d change.) Here are some of my favorite responses:

I really like this class because Mrs. B really…

Haha. Seems weird to greet people when I know there is absolutely no one reading this, but just in case someone happens to stumble upon my little blog I’ll tell you a little bit about me.

My name is … well if you don’t know it really isn’t too important. I have created this account to share with you all, my journey as I work toward becoming a teacher. I wish to one day teach in an inner city school. I am currently a college freshman, and I am already taking classes toward my degree and getting some hands on in the classroom experience.

For my first semester of college I have been assigned to a 3rd grade magnet class. Most of my post from now until December will be about my experiences in the 3rd grade class, and what I believe it means to be a teacher.
